When in my normal element, I never miss the opportunity to reap birthday wishes like a well planted crop, i.e. Starting a week or so before June 23rd, I tell anyone that will listen that my "special day" is coming and that, no, I don't have anything in particular that I am dying for (except this year I was hoping Nintendo might drop a Wii Fit on my door step.... no dice), no presents, please!, and then I sit back and enjoy the fuss that everyone makes on the actual day. I know that some people don't like to draw attention to their birthday, but I am clearly cut from some birthday-lovin' cloth. (Or it is some sort of psychological pathology that develops from having a summer birthday and after years of never seeing your friends on your birthday because it happens to be the week that everyone goes on summer vacation and/or you live so deep in the country that your mother is compelled to celebrate your birthday like she is a 100 people, not just one.)
This is my first year to celebrate a birthday while blogging and I just assumed that I would flog my birthday for all it was worth! I mean, the only place more ideally suited to gathering up those birthday wishes is facebook. (And thank goodness for that, because my friends really came through and showered me with birthday wishes there. :) Twitter let me down a little, but I can't blame it, because I let everyone know it was my birthday almost three weeks ago! Realizing just how ridiculous I am about my birthday, I started signing my tweets "The Birthday Narcissist." Pretty apropos, no? ;-)
So, my birthday has come and gone. I've said goodbye to 36 and am anxious for the adventures that will unfold while 37. My biggest achievement of the past year is the development of this blog and the great sense of satisfaction and community that comes with it. So thank you to YOU and have a piece of cake.

unless you really want to. ;-)
P.S. The packing hell is almost over! I am leaving Iowa this morning to head back Wisconsin for the final days of packing/cleaning. The container gets packed up on Wednesday and then I come back to IA for a summer of relaxation and gearing up for BlogHer *SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!*
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for telling everyone my birthday as well (Jan. 14, cough cough), not so much for the presents (although I do love presents) but just to feel all special and whatnot.
No cake for me but if there are still margaritas, I'd take a big slice of it!

Happy birthday, sweetie!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you. I like a wee bit of a production on my birthday (November 15. Lots of time to plan!), so this past fall, when my husband TOTALLY BLEW IT OFF...well, suffice to say, his birthday is in a few weeks and paybacks are a bit of a bitch. Or so I hear. Or plot. Either way...
Safe travels back and forth between the states. I'm going to credit you for bringing a reprieve to the super hot temps here in Iowa this week. Thanks!
Well, happy belated birthday!!
ReplyDeleteAhem, we shall now have extra things to celebrate next year because MY BIRTHDAY IS THE 24th!!!!! Yay birthday buddies! Hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. I hope you enjoyed your e-card on the actual day. My son's Birthday was the 24th.

Happy Birthday
Since getting wind of the "holiday" news, I donned my Rip Taylor costume and have been tossing THIS and running under it in your honor all morning! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
ReplyDeleteI turned 37 this year and didn't do much to acknowledge it. It's hard with little kids around who barely understand their own birthday let alone mine. No fanfare - don't think I even mentioned it online... But I do like my birthday and enjoy telilng people how old I am since they feel compelled to tell me that I look far younger, and I am vain enough to choose to believe them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Happy Birthday!! You are so lucky to be 37 I hate you ....Just kidding just jealous I wish I was still in my thirties rather than lying about it.You don't want to get a Wii anything until you are in England it's a pain in the ass with plugs and all.
ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday to you! Hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say it anyway! Happy Birthday Amy! Enjoy your summer!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a birthday ho too. And yet every year I am terribly sadly dispappointed. No one ever does NUTHIN on my birthday for me. Pathetic huh?
ReplyDeleteI will be at BlogHer too. Find me. I will most likely be in the bar.
:)
Happy birthday! You've almost caught up to me :-P
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI always felt that summer birthday people were lucky-mine is right in the middle of the Holidays...and who cares?
There's no competing with the Birth of the Savior, you know. Add Thanksgiving, Hanukkah & the fact that everyone is broke--not to mention sick to death of cake--& well birthdays have gotten old.
However, this year is my 21st-so I'm hoping for big things...
Happy birthday!! With all the adventure that lies ahead you're going to have a great 37. Enjoy it, and I hope the celebration was grand.
ReplyDeleteWho can top Maggies' b-day wishes???
ReplyDeleteInteresting, if you just move the comma it reads:
No, presents please!
HAAAAPPPPYYYY BBIIIRRRTTHHDAAAYYY TO YOU!
ReplyDeleteI'm cut from that Birthday cloth too. Mine was June 3rd.
Ha ha ha haah ah ah ah ah ahahahahhaahahahahahah!
ReplyDeleteListen...I call everybody I know the day before my birthday and I say "It's my birthday tomorrow, so say happy birthday to me." Ha ha ahah ah ah ah ah ah ha!
Seriously.
And I know who the fake bitches are, if they are like "....." because real friends will say "You're crazy, Charity! Ha hahahaha!"
So that's how you know fake bitches from real friends! :)
I know what you mean about the birth date. My son's is the day after Christmas. So just imagine that!!!
Belated happy, happy, happy birthdaaaayyyy, Ammmyyyyyy!!!! :)))
Happy Birthday doll! It sounds like this year is going to be the start of a grand adventure for you....live it up!
