Random Tuesday Roundup: NYC Edition

I'm having quite a time collecting my shit today, so I am joining in the Random Tuesday fun that is hosted by the Un Mom. ( I love Chad and Kat's random thoughts every Tuesday, so check out theirs, too, if you get a chance because I think you'll like what they cough up. ;) Here goes:

I was in New York City this weekend for my favorite cousin's wedding. I'm a little miffed that the photograph to the left is the only record of what I thought was a pretty smokin' hot ensemble. Being the photographer, I should be used to not having photos of myself, but I when I put some effort into trying to look good? I want the satisfaction of looking back at the photographs for verification or a reality check.

My vanity and ego were both rampantly out of control this weekend. I feel bad about that. But....

Due to poor planning, I ended up without my flat-iron and with the wrong hair products to tame my curly hair (that was suffering in the heat, I might add). This frizz -problem resulted in my having to go to the Elizabeth Arden Hair Salon around the corner from our hotel for a "wash & style." Which resulted in my hair looking so fabulous that the girl doing my hair insisted I get a "complimentary" make-up refresher. Which resulted in my not being able to resist getting fake eyelashes applied when the make-up lady offered them to me at a discounted rate. Which ended up making my trip to the salon more expensive than a pretty fab new pair of shoes, but slightly less than a night at the hotel. This will end up with my husband giving me a look, like "Are you fucking insane?" followed by, "I wasn't even there to enjoy it!!" It really was a shame that he missed those lashes.... they were hawt. (Click the photo--- you can see how lustrous and thick they are, I swear. ;)

At the wedding reception, I got two sentences into my toast and started to cry. Miraculously (truly, considering my track record with this sort of thing), I was able to recover and made it through the whole speech. Hooray for marriage (and hooray for Bulliet Bourbon, which totally had my back on this)!!!!

For the record: Any wedding that stocks Bulliet Bourbon as the hand-selected bourbon of choice is the TOPS. Best. Wedding. Ever. (And, yes, thank you very much for noticing, that IS the booze talking.)

Speaking of marriage, I just heard that Prop8 got upheld by the CA Supreme Court. Excuse my language, but WHAT THE FUCK? How can two people getting married to each other matter so much to the haters? I just don't get it. In my mind, it only strengthens the idea/institution of marriage because it would confirm that love and life partnerships are valued, not just as a religious or civil union, but as a treasured part of our humanity. THUMBS DOWN.

This dress here, to the left? It is made out of PAPER!!! How awesome is that? I saw it in the window of this store called Kate's Paperie. If I wasn't moving soon, I would've spent all that salon money here. Fact of the matter is, though, I have a problem when it comes to purchasing paper products. Some people buy shoes, some ladies get purses,.... my weak spot is paper. I have a drawer in my office that is filled with awesome cards for every occasion. I have a file cabinet with 2 drawers filled with stamps and stamp pads. I have more calligraphy equipment than any sane person who isn't a calligrapher by trade should have. I have paper of every poundage and color and texture for any drawing or painting or stamping or writing or folding that you can imagine. It is -truly- bordering on a sickness. It all started when I was little and collected stickers.

See this guy =====>
That is just funny. (Funny strange, not funny ha-ha.)

Wanna see something funnier? Check out the hilarious customer reviews for this rockin' three wolf t-shirt. Just scroll down. Trust me, you will hooooooooooowwwwwwwl with laughter. (I promise it is way funnier than that super lame pun. *~*

  2. Woot Woot Amy has jumped on the random train! All aboard! (Not like that you sick-o's!)

I have a definite problem with paper as well...only mine is just stacks of paper on my kitchen table that I don't sort through.

  4. This is by far the BEST and most random post that I have ever won. I'd like to start out my random comment by saying that I clicked on your picture. You bet your ass that your eyelashes were thick. I don't even need my widescreen computer to verify that one!

Oh, and I definitely echo your WFT on Prop 8. California will never get it together.

I can say that because I live here.

  5. You, lady, are one smokin' hot babe! That ain't just the lashes talking, either! You know you are when I bust out the wacky grammar!

I've never been to New York. I've been to California. Once. Let's just say that today, once again, I'm glad to live in a state that let's us all say "I do," good bourbon or not.

  7. I do love your randomness. And I agree with you on the marriage issue. I wish it just didn't matter so much to others.

  11. How sad is it if I still drool over stickers...and even buy them...and then actually use them!? There's something about wearing lush, fabulous and long fake eyelashes...I feel pretty, oh so pretty! Sounds like you had a great time at the wedding (with or without the great drinks!)

  14. love that photo and those lashes look like they need their own zipcode.

  15. Beautiful hair and lashes.

I have often lamented the fact that I am the photographer in the family...Chris only gets inspired to grab the camera about twice a year. I am usually wearing an unflattering t-shirt and 3 days late for a much needed hair wash. Which would explain my now almost 2 year old profile picture...

  16. I don't know what is "hawter" - your eyelashes or a man in a wolf t-shirt....LOL

  17. Your lashes are amazing! I want to do that. You are a freakin' doll face!

Sad news for sure about Prop 8, but at least they are recognizing the marriages that already took place. That is a small win I think. We will see the day friends. I am not giving up hope!

  18. Those are some smokin' lashes! And hair!

If I had the room, I'd be a paper addict too. I'll probably be one again when my kid isn't destroying anything in sight.

  19. It all started with the Lisa Frank prism stickers for me. I am a paper-stamp-sticker-pen-junkie also!

  20. LOVE NY!!

How did the fake eyelashes feel? I always wanted to try them out

  21. Girlfriend, you look HAWT in that photo! And that picture is awesome. I love how your reflection is in the tiles and the trash can. Prop8? Huh? So much for liberal California. Oh well, they can keep coming up to Vancouver and getting married here. We still love them.

  22. Great photo and I must take more photos of trash cans, they are fabulous pieces of architecture...

  23. I can't focus...it's just not happening...first I see a toilet room...then a gorgeous picture of you and your new fake lashes...then a face of someone who looks like Chuck from Gossip Girl...then a dress made out of paper...my head is spinning....spinning....spinning...I need my magic markers now...you know...to draw things on the wall....

  24. I LOVE the new look. That hair is absolutely amazing. Money well spent I would say!

  25. You're right. The lashes were HAWT. The hair? Enviable. I am hating you just a little right now. I can admit it.
Welcome to the insanity of RTT! I'm so random about it, I'm saying it on Wednesday!

  26. So so glad you found my blog! Your hair looks amazing! Seriously.

As for Prop 8...here's how a good friend of mine put it:
It's okay to be gay in Iowa but not in California? WTF?

    Looking forward to reading more!

  27. wow! Cute!!! And you went without your husband, you say?! Did the guy in the three wolf T shirt try to pick you up?!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Seriously...I love those comments about the wolf shirt. I'm at work which is a drag in itself, but reading those comments just put a whole new perspective on my day. Amazing.

Delighted to hear your problem with paper - thought it was only me, I have loads of cards for all occasions but my real weakness is notebooks - i have so many!
