This is my darling middle son, Destructo, taken in 2005 not too long before he turned three years old. In fact, he is almost *to the day* the same age the Animal is right now! Strange how these memes work out sometimes, no? This happens to be one of my favorite all-time photos of little Destructo because it was taken before he took a flying leap off the play structure at school and bit through his bottom lip (which has never looked the same) and because it is a rare photograph of him with both eyes open (he's a blinker) and all his intelligence and vivacity really seems on display for the camera which he is really connecting with.
Looking at the picture a little closer, it also makes me recall all the rough times we had with Destructo around this time, too. He was still getting a nebulizer for his asthma every day and we were trying to switch him over to a puffer around this time. A nebulizer, for those of you who have not had an infant with asthma or pneumonia, is a small air compressor attached to a mask that you hold over your baby's mouth and nose so they can breathe in an atomized medicine like albuterol. Destructo would get so sick every time he got a cold; it was like whatever bug was in him would instantly gravitate to his lungs and settle there to make him cough and wheeze. You can see the little dark circles under his eyes in this picture!
Even though our old allergist told us "not to bet on it" when we asked if he could outgrow his asthma, his diagnosis was finally removed this fall. Turns out his allergy to mold is off the charts and it was causing him to cough- a cough almost identical to his asthmatic cough that he used to get as a toddler. :) A zyrtec a day keeps that cough away now, but I'll never forget sitting and watching Baby Einstein or the Teletubbies with my sweet little Destructo calm and snuggly in my lap while he patiently breathed in his medicine.
Thank you so much to Rae over at Us In Tejas for tagging me on this meme! And, of course, there is the awesome originator of the Thousand Word Thursday at Cheaper than Therapy (and then go check out TheMomJen's new review site Therapeutic).
Love the picture :)
ReplyDeleteYes - that is a hell of a cool header! And love that photo too - the mischievous little monkey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great smile! Cute!
ReplyDeleteYou're blog looks incredible. Love the new header, suits you way more than a sunset horizon ;)
ReplyDeleteSaw the Guitar Hero in your header...you wanna play online sometime? Been addicted to playing online lately!

Adorable photo! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable.
ReplyDeletei too had a little guy that used a neublizer quite often. we decided to buy one since we needed one all the time. and it has come in handy many of times. my little guy out grew his too. what a cute little one you have:)
ReplyDeleteOh, he's the sweetest! Same age as my Youngest, and we've passed the last week in lap, Teletubbies playing, fighting pneumonia.
ReplyDeleteThat nebulizer - a love/hate, you know?
Again! Again! Again!
I am still drawn to the hot , sexy rocking gal in the header. Nice mate. The new header speaks more about you than the more dark old header. Any gal who can do shots and party with Zeus, does not use a century Gothic header. LOL Do you create and post all your own headers?
ReplyDeleteHe's too cute! I love going through old pictures of my kids, makes me a little sad that they're growing up though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new look over here - very clean, hip, and just generally very bitchin'. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteThat Destructo is a heartbreaker. What a cutie. And those dark circles under his eyes? Uh....don't seem 'em. But if you DO want to see some - I'll show you mine. They're brilliant.
Happy to hear he's chucked that asthma label - my sibs and I all had asthma growing up and have basically outgrown it. My kids don't have it thank God.
Lovely post! And I also think the new header looks great!
ReplyDeleteAww he is so cute surely he isn't really a destructo! I know, I know people say that to me too about my three yr old....if they only knew! Good to hear zyrtec has cured all...might try that with my boy. He hasn't ever been diagnosed with asthma but after RSV and Pneumonia as a baby ANY time he gets sick it seems to go straight to his lungs then the coughing, gagging and puking starts. Oops probably TMI for a comment sorry....long comment short we are now on our second nebulizer so I know kind of what you mean!
ReplyDeleteI miss the days when my middle son would smile nicely for pictures. Your son looks beautiful here - the look of childhood innocence. If only we could keep that look in all of us.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture and explanation. He doesn't really looked like a destructo, but I know looks can be deceiving!
ReplyDeleteLove the pick!
ReplyDeleteI remember the nebulizer/albuterol days with my son. What a stressful time. I'm glad your little fella is doing well now.

I love the new look Amy! I also love looking back at photos and remembering them "the way they were. . . "
ReplyDeleteCool kid!
ReplyDeleteHugs and Mocha,
Stesha
My Boy has the puffer, hopefully he can get over as it's said. Cutie patootie though!
ReplyDeleteCUTE picture! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a bittersweet memory (the medicine and snugglies) Kids are so resilient, aren't they? I don't know many adults that could power through half the things that kids deal with. Glad his diagnosis was removed!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post of memories about your very adorable child! : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie!!!! For fun, I checked my 6th and it's my high school graduation picture! LOL
ReplyDeleteGREAT story!!! Sorry for being such a blog-slag these last few days, I promise I'll get caught up!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great one!!!
