Girls' Night Out: Brit-Style

I am seriously digging these UK ladies and their ability to really throw it all to the wind when they go out for a night....

This was our latest ladies' sojourn into town to celebrate two birthdays. After being picked up by a mini-bus at each of our houses, we descended on the local Prezzo's Italian restaurant and quickly drove away all the customers within earshot of our shrieking and laughing. Why the mini-bus, you might ask? Well, apparently people take the possibility of a DUI much more seriously than they do in Wisconsin. Hey, I'm not saying that we all drive around soused, that is NOT true. But over here, the penalties are extremely harsh if you get caught, like £400-500+ fines and a mandatory 1-year disqualification of your driver's license harsh. In Wisconsin, if I remember correctly, you can actually get multiple DUIs and still retain your license, if you can believe it.

So, every time we have a big night out where everyone wants to have drink worry-free, Phil the mini-bus driver is called into action and we all pile in and out of the bus going to and from the restaurant or party. It ends up being about £10 per person, which is totally worth it and makes me wonder why I never thought about doing this at home!

So, ladies, take a page from the posh life of English villagers and make mini-van arrangements for all those nights out with the girls! I know I am.

In other news, my online life just intersected with my real life over here. Suddenly I am friends on facebook with a bunch of my new local friends and I am wondering how long it will take before they find my blog. Anonymity is not usually something I crave, but it is something I can appreciate.

  1. Total blast. I'm a jealous guy. So, do they make you say things with your American accent and then laugh hysterically?

    Wait, you're on facebook?

    Cheers,

  2. Oh, how well I remember trying to keep up with those Brits, they put us North Americans to shame in the drinking and partying department. Although we do have our own Phil the mini bus drive right here in our little town. He has become a very close friend since we moved up;-)

  8. I agree with the minibus vs dwi situation. It is so logical.
If I could do it all over again, I'd have never driven after partying.

  11. I love girls nights out. Some things about them are so universal. Like how inevitably, 90% of the group will wear black.

  13. It's totally worth it-- my favorite thing about living in the city is being able to take a cab home so I can get as drunk as I want, haha
