Bits and Bots (Thoughts and Songs)

Sitting in my living room at my newly down-sized desk, I take in one of the small down-sides of our new house. I no longer have my own space to escape to! There is a plus side, in that every door has a lock... but I don't like working while lying in bed or while sitting on the toilet or even sitting on the couch. I like to be in a proper chair at a proper desk. I want to feel official. I want to feel like what I does is valid enough a pursuit to have a dedicated space.


My desk, shoved into the corner of the living room, or a space on the island in the kitchen, is just. Not. Cutting. It.


And something is really going on with my guts... It has been awhile since I have suffered from this kind of cramping, intermittent *yeeaachhh* but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will miraculously heal themselves immediately following the auditions for the village play tonight. It's been awhile since I've been so anxious about something that my bowels have gone into "irritable" mode. It was a constant problem when I was a teenager, anxious to always do well and impress those around me. But now that I've got years of being mostly charming and pretty comfortable wherever I find myself, I am disconcerted that I can't even recognize that this may be what is going on.

Or maybe it was the cheese I ate last night. That bit of Boursin that I found wrapped in tinfoil in the back of the fridge? It smelled fine and I didn't see any mold.... but I also couldn't remember when I packed it up and put it there.

One more thing! A favor, really. My mom has nominated one of her friends for an all-day spa prize and I was hoping you could send an email to hairys-aveda [at] hotmail.com saying in the body of the email that "I am voting for entry #1." From my mom's own fingertips, here is the message she sent me:

"Voting closes October 1st! I found out yesterday that she was one of the nominees. I wrote the letter nominating her last month. S*** is my friend that came along on the trip to your cousin's wedding and babysat for D***and M*** for the wedding. She has made your kids sweaters. She knits and crochets beautifully and always makes something neat when a baby is born to friends. Her husband lost his business and a lot of money trying to save it the last five years. S*** never has money to spend on herself and is the most frugal person I know. She and her husband really enjoyed that trip. They hadn't been on a vacation for over five years and he had never been to New York City. A spa day would be such a treat for her! Hope you can motivate your friends and fans to take the time to place an email vote. Thanks honey, Mom"

Now, however deluded my mom may be for thinking of my readers as "fans," I have to agree that perhaps I do know more people than she does. People who could very easily just plug that email address in and zip off an email with "I'm voting for Entry #1." copied right into the body of it. S*** is an amazing person and has been a friend and co-worker of my mom's for years. I know that YOU don't know her, but I hope you will send off an email for her in the spirit of random acts of kindness. Thank you!! The email must be sent by the end of the day October 1st (today!).
